East Midlands Distribution Centre

Project Information

Woods Hardwick were appointed by Winvic Construction to undertake the BREEAM Assessment of the distribution centre for Marks and Spencer’s in Castle Donnington.
The development of approximately 88,000m2 Gross Internal Area (GIA), comprises specialist storage and handling facilities (c. 80,000m2) and office space with associated facilities arranged over several floors (c. 8,000m2). With the current emphasis placed on energy conservation and the use of Low and Zero Carbon (LZC) technologies, the client was keen to enhance the development’s sustainable credentials both from an estates and public perspective. The design team paid a lot of focus on energy efficiency measures, particularly in view of the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme that was introduced. As the brief was to attain a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for the building, and in the absence of any direct guidance from the local authority the development achieves a 20% reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions through on-site renewable energy generation.
