Senior Architectural Technician/Technologist - Residential / Development Consultancy
We are looking for a Senior Architectural Technician/Technologist (Residential) to join our expanding practice. This role will be based in our Bedford or Birmingham office.
Woods Hardwick are a UK-leading independent and employee-owned multi-disciplinary built environment practice integrating residential and commercial architecture, engineering, planning and surveying for all development needs.
This role is part of the successful and established residential (development consultancy) team, helping to deliver large scale multi-unit residential developments from inception through to planning determination (as guided by the project designer). Our UK-wide projects range from small private developers to national house builders and masterplanning schemes.
You will be responsible for drafting the necessary planning drawings, in particular house types and multi-unit planning layouts, and assisting in producing all supporting documentation. With a good working knowledge of the planning systems that affect design, you will also be able to adapt designs to specific local authority design guidance.
About you:
- 5 years + experience in the residential sector
- Confident in drafting/ hand sketching (experience in residential layout design is preferable)
- A strong portfolio demonstrating proven design ability and exceptional presentation skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop is essential
- Experience with Revit, Sketchup and Rendering software’s is desirable
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Software (Publisher in particular)
- Knowledge and understanding of current UK Planning and Building Regulations
- Working well as part of a team as well as individual creative thinking
- Confident, personable and proactive
- Strong communication with a high standard of written and spoken English
- Experience in writing Design and Access Statements
- Experience with client interaction

Transport / Flood Risk / Drainage Engineer (Associate/Associate Director)
We are looking for a degree-qualified (ideally Chartered) Infrastructure Engineer to join our Engineering team in Bedford.
You will have at least 5 years experience, specifically in the preparation of Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies to support Planning Applications for both residential and non-residential development.
You will have a high level of technical expertise as well as excellent communication and management skills. You will be able to manage colleagues and deadlines with minimal input. Work will include Due Diligence Site Appraisals/Feasibility Studies through to preparation of Planning Application documentation.
You will be competent in the use of the following software programmes:
- Junctions 9
- LINSIG
- Tempro
- Ideally experienced in MicroDrainage
Experience of Flood Modelling software is preferable but not essential.
