Apprentice Land Surveyor
We are looking for an Apprentice Land Surveyor to join our expanding multidisciplinary practice. This role will be based in our Bedford office. 

Woods Hardwick is a leading multidisciplinary practice of architects, engineers, planners and surveyors.

What training will take place?

Apprentices will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Surveying as a pre requisite to end point assessment and will become Associate members of the RICS (AssocRICS).

 

What will you be doing?

  • Assist the surveyor on-site at client premises with calculating land and/or building measurements and carry out drainage
  • investigations.
    Use latest surveying technology to assist the surveyor by operating the Total Station (Theodolite) and GPS.
  • Learn to use survey software such as N4ce and AutoCAD in order to produce technical drawings.
  • Maintain the surveyor’s kit before and after jobs i.e. ensure batteries are fully charged.
  • Load information onto the system and export to AutoCAD
    Office time will be used to learn how to use software such as n4ce, AutoCAD and REVIT and to assist the surveyor in producing technical drawings
  • General administrative tasks.
  • Outdoor and often site based work involving rough terrain, carrying equipment safely and work in all weather conditions.

 

The salary is £12,000 per year.

Senior Architectural Technician/Technologist - Residential / Development Consultancy
We are looking for a Senior Architectural Technician/Technologist (Residential) to join our expanding multidisciplinary practice. This role will be based in our Bedford office. 

Woods Hardwick is a leading multidisciplinary practice of architects, engineers, planners and surveyors.

This role is part of the successful and established residential (development consultancy) team, helping to deliver large scale multi-unit residential developments from inception through to planning determination (as guided by the project designer). Our UK-wide projects range from small private developers to national house builders and masterplanning schemes.

You will be responsible for drafting the necessary planning drawings, in particular house types and multi-unit planning layouts, and assisting in producing all supporting documentation.  With a good working knowledge of the planning systems that affect design, you will also be able to adapt designs to specific local authority design guidance.

About you:

  • 5 years + experience in the residential sector
  • Confident in drafting/ hand sketching (experience in residential layout design is preferable)
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating proven design ability and exceptional presentation skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop is essential
  • Experience with Revit, Sketchup and Rendering software’s is desirable
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Software (Publisher in particular)
  • Knowledge and understanding of current UK Planning and Building Regulations
  • Working well as part of a team as well as individual creative thinking
  • Confident, personable and proactive
  • Strong communication with a high standard of written and spoken English
  • Experience in writing Design and Access Statements
  • Experience with client interaction

Architectural Technician/Technologist - Commercial
We are looking for a Qualified Architectural Technologist/Technician to join our Commercial Architecture team in our Bedford office. You will be Part 2 RIBA Qualified or CIAT with minimum 5 years + post qualification practical experience.

This role is for the commercial architecture team and as such a track record in commercial architecture is a requirement. Applicants will need to have a focus, interest and experience in the retail, industrial and education sectors in particular.

Applicants will be required to have a high level of technical expertise as well as excellent communication skills, able to establish and maintain client relationships. In addition it would be beneficial to have experience running projects, as well as the ability to fit into a team, or work individually as the project requires.

We are looking for someone whose portfolio displays examples of their design strength as well as their experience in technical design resolution and detailing capability. 

Specific experience:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software is essential.
  • Experience and proficiency in writing NBS specifications would be useful
  • Knowledge of Revit, Sketch-up, Photoshop and supplementary presentation software packages would also be beneficial.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and the candidate must be willing to travel if the project requires.
