Harrods

We are celebrating 25 years of working with the world’s most famous department store, Harrods. Our architecture and retail fit-out team has worked as Executive Architects and as part of wider design teams, overseeing many enhancements to the iconic Knightsbridge store – totalling more than 250 projects over a quarter of a century.

Our most recent project launched in July 2020, with the opening of Harrods Men’s Designer Collections rooms.

Other headline projects include the Men’s Superbrands and the Beauty Hall, as well as the repositioning of the Food Hall as the premier retail grocery destination. We have worked with Harrods on the long-term redesign of the rooftop space over the last 25 years, helping reconfigure the roofscape as part of a strategy to provide new offices and facilities in a challenging geographical environment. This has all been about strategic space creation, seeking to maximise the retail offer on lower floor levels, optimising the customer experience.

Over the 25 years, we have developed an in-depth understanding of Harrods and their strategic goals. And it doesn’t stop at Knightsbridge, we have also worked with the business on the internal design of their office space in Hammersmith as well as with their residential estate agency, Harrods Estates.

Through our track record working with listed buildings and for Historic England, Harrods regularly engages Woods Hardwick to recondition specialist areas of the store. We work alongside world-renowned interior designers to maintain the modern, stylish shopping environment.

As well as implementing our own design concepts, Woods Hardwick works collaboratively with eminent interior design practices, David Collins Studio, and GA Design, on projects such as the Men’s Superbrands and the new ground floor Beauty Hall.

In celebrating our milestone, Lewis Taylor, Design Director at David Collins Studio said,

“We enjoy working closely with the team at Woods Hardwick. They have a unique technical understanding of Harrods, particularly how to deliver challenging projects within this iconic listed building. It is testimony to their talent and experience to see them celebrating 25 years of working with this great client.”

And for us, Christmas at the world’s most famous department store is always magical. In recent years, we have held the position of Executive Architect of the exclusive Christmas experience. Last year our planning team got involved too, securing Planning and Listed Building approval for the simply magical external decorations you may have seen adorning the outside of this iconic Grade II Listed building at Christmas time!

Here’s to another 25 years!
