Senior Architect / Senior Technologist
We are looking for an experienced Senior Architect / Senior Technologist to join our Commercial Architecture team in our Bedford office.
You will be Part 3 RIBA/ ARB Qualified or MCIAT with minimum 8 years + post qualification practical experience and proficient at delivering complex projects.
This role is for the commercial architecture team and as such a track record in commercial architecture is a requirement. You will have a focus, interest, and experience in retail, industrial, logistics, office, and educational sectors, working across all RIBA work stages, but with a particular focus on producing and coordinating detailed construction packages of information, and then following these works onto site.
You will have a high level of technical expertise as well as excellent communication skills, able to establish and maintain client relationships. You will have experience running projects, as well as the ability to fit into a team, or work individually as the project requires.
You will be able to:
- Effectively interface with the client and client’s team,
- Correspond effectively with the client and all members of the team as required,
- Be able to juggle multiple deadlines and there management thereof,
- Take the project lead as required,
- Produce and manage drawings,
- Proficiency in the coordination and checking of information produced by external consultants to enable integration into the project design,
- Visit site independently and produce the requisite records,
- Have a good understanding of the planning system & statutory prosses,
- Have an excellent knowledge of the Building Regulations and their application,
- Willingness to attend industry events to promote Woods Hardwick,
- Have a basic understanding of a projects budget,
We are looking for someone whose portfolio displays examples of their design strength as well as their experience in technical design resolution, detailing and design coordination capabilities.
Specific experience:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software is essential.
- Experience and proficiency in writing NBS specifications.
- Knowledge of Revit, Sketch-up, Photoshop and supplementary presentation software packages would also be beneficial.
- Full UK Driving Licence and the candidate must be willing to travel if the project requires.

Architectural Assistant
We are looking for an experienced Architectural Assistant to join our Residential Architecture team in our Bedford office.
Job Purpose
You will be part of the successful and well-established residential team helping to deliver residential developments from inception to planning determination by carrying out the following:
- Assisting on various residential projects around the UK, from small-scale schemes for private developers to large-scale master planning projects for national housebuilders.
- Working within an enthusiastic team where creativity and collaboration is encouraged, assisting on the design and drafting of planning drawings and documentation.

Job Description
- Drafting planning drawings as required, specifically house types and multi-unit planning layouts – generally up to planning application stage
- Using AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop and other software to produce drawings/plans
- Promote good working practices through creative thinking, communication and collaboration with all parties
- Hand sketching to communicate design ideas and scheme proposals
- Assist with producing Design and Access Statements and other supporting documentation relevant to planning applications
- Support an ambitious team who is well recongised in the residential architecture industry
Person Specification
- 2+ years’ experience within the residential sector
- Relevant degree level educated (architecture, urban design etc)– desirable
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office Software.
- Experience with SketchUp and 3D rendering packages, such as V-Ray is desirable although some training can be provided;
- Design orientated, good hand drawings skills preferable;
- Energetic, enthusiastic and communicative person who works well as part of a team but can also progress works independently as required;
- Punctual, reliable and articulate individual.
- Working well as part of a team as well as individual creative thinking.
- Confident, personable and proactive.
- Strong communication with a high standard of written and spoken English.
