The Shed forms part of the first Phase of the Whitehill & Bordon town centre development following the recent completion of the leisure centre. Working with Marbank Contruction Ltd and the developer Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company ( WBRC ) Woods Hardwick have prepared the detailed design of the Shed to provide a mixture of retail, leisure, craft and creative workspaces housing local businesses for the local community.
The simple form of the building reflects the designs of the engineering shed that formed part of the Army barracks that once stood on the site. The colours of the external cladding panels reflect the historical colours of the Bordon tank regiment. Within the 2 storey building , with a double height circulation route a variety of unit sizes provide flexibility for potential occupiers ranging from food concessions to a micro brewery. Double height perimeter glazed roller shutter doors when open provide strong links between the internal spaces and the new landscaped external social seating and play areas.
As part of the multi-use functioning of the internal double height space a compact central stage area with a circulation connection to the back of house areas provides an arena for entertainers, bands and theatrical events
On the first-floor full height partitions create enclosed workspaces accessed via the main staircase and the passenger lift. The full height partition along the first-floor balcony edge offer views to the double height space and the social areas below.
Externally a new landscaped scheme provides numerous circulation routes and hard paved areas for pop up events and markets integrating the building into the surround new town centre layout.
