Fairfield Park

Woods Hardwick played an important role in the development of this site, on of the first developments in the UK to be based on the contemporary application of Design Codes. The site is marked by a complex of Grade II listed former hospital buildings. Their distinctive four storey towers dominated many views into the site.

The former Fairfield Hospital is located in Bedfordshire close to the Hertfordshire border; between Stotfold & Letchworth Garden City. The development of the land to the south of the hospital included 910 dwellings, along with the conversion of the hospital building to accommodate 101 flats – this secured the restoration of the listed buildings. Since the adoption of the design guide, we have been involved in the detailed design of the mixed-use high-density centre, along with many of the surrounding residential phases.

Using the design strategy as guidance, our team of architects designed high-quality buildings with their own character and identity, respecting the sensitive setting of the listed Hospital building.
