Woods Hardwick Commercial Architecture team are pleased to have worked with Marbank Construction on the Building 84 development at Bordon, which is a new distribution hub for the local Games company Asmodee and is the latest phase of the ambitious redevelopment of the former Army garrison at Bordon.
The building totals 133,500 ft2 floor area and consists of warehousing and a landmark 3 storey office block. The project also provided further car parking in the form of a 2.5 storey multi storey car park to supplement the on-site provision.
The new development is located on a brownfield site which originally contained one of the engineering workshops that provided support facilities for the Army’s School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SEME). The surrounding open landscaped areas that once provided tank testing areas have since been transformed into the Hogmoor enclosure which is a nature area containing extensive trails, cycle ways and children play areas.
The project design creates a stunning headquarters building incorporating a contemporary office element with a bold external feature frame containing vertical fin shading. The design of the fins creates a visual link with the substantial surrounding landscaped areas and the banks of mature, tall, slender pine trees. The fin motif is also incorporated into the open side multi storey car park. Other distinctive & stylish feature of the projects are the sleek black coloured composite cladding panels and random staggered aluminium panels that lose the large warehouse against the dark green backdrop of the existing surrounding wooded areas.
Internally the design consists of a fabulous entrance leading to the main reception and to the three floors of open plan office areas beyond. Full height glazing to the offices provides substantial views of the surrounding area. Up on the third floor overlooking the main entrance an external terrace has been created that is linked to the third-floor staff canteen area.
This project was completed at the end of 2023 and is fully operational and being utilised in its entirety by Asmodee.
