The Government published yesterday a ‘Joint Declaration of Ambition’ relating to the ongoing strategic ambitions for development in the Oxford- Cambridge Arc.
This Declaration – which has been agreed between the Government; local authorities; four local enterprise partnerships; and England’s Economic Heartland – reaffirms the Government’s long term economic ambitions for the Arc, including an ambition for up to one million new homes by 2050, but also provides an initial report on the long-term economic analysis, which will provide an up-to-date picture of the economic opportunities and challenges facing the Arc.
In addition, the Declaration notes that the Government has committed to establishing a joint Advisory Group with the mandate of providing expertise and to be a figurehead for the Arc nationally and internationally.
Lastly, the Declaration notes that a public engagement exercise will be undertaken over Summer 2019. This will engage with the public across the four main themes identified in the Declaration (Productivity, Place-making, Connectivity and Environment) and will be used to help inform future plans for the Arc and ensure they benefit existing and new communities and businesses.
